Fruit for Thought

The Next time you enjoy the Night in Town, consider sipping a Strawberry Margarita or a Cranberry Vodka instead of swigging beer. Not only is the alcoholic fruit cocktail delicious, it also contributes towards your intake of healthy food. US and Thai researchers say enthanol, which is found in Rum, Vodka and Tequila, boosts the level of nutrients found in antioxidant-rich fruit such as strawberries and cranberries.

Health experts discovered this unexpectedly when they were exploring ways to help keep strawberries fresh during storage. They found that treating the berries with alcohol increased its antioxidant capacity and scavenging activity. This study, reported in the journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, also states that people who eats fruits and vegetables that contains compounds known as polyphenols and anthocyanins have a documented lower risk of cancer, heart disease and some neurological diseases.

To Love or Not to Love

Ever woke up feeling so in love one day and so NOT in love the next day? Some people are just stuck with the wrong partner for no rhyme or reason. Growing up back then, I watched my mother tolerate my fathers' temperamental character. He wasn't a bad dad, It was just the influence of alcohol that suddenly brings out the beast in him. Which was indeed very frightening sometimes. But my mother being the ol' fashioned Indian woman, she didn't do anything about it. Instead she still loved and cared for him despite his behavior. Sounds like some indian stage drama?

Smoking Women

In theory, we know that a cigarette has 4000 chemicals in it, such as Tar, Mothball, Pesticide and even Dish washing agents. Smoking is equivalent to drinking a glass full of 4000 chemicals! Sounds awful doesn't it?! Definitely not your cup of tea. What more, our beautiful Indian women smoking?

Lately the ratio of women smoking in our society has increased from a drastic 1:10 to a 2:5. What has caused this increase? Is smoking a new found trend amongst our women or is it a mode of stress release?

According to few, it's a new fashion statement. Some never leave home without their ciggs. But the question here is WHY? Why smoking? Like as if there is no other alternative. We know the consequences and yet we fail to abide. I know rules are meant to be bent but if something like smoking is going to ruin your given beauty, why are we still doing it?!

My Life as a Transsexual....

Being labeled and pushed away from young was an unpleasant ride for me! People didn't understand how it felt like to be me. From the outside I'm a BOY, but inside, I feel so much like a GIRL. Let me share with you my struggle to be accepted in my own circle of friends and family.

I 'm Nisha (name changed to protect identity). Ever since I was young, I never fancied boy clothes, boy-talk, boy-toys and the whole boy-life! Being an Indian myself, I've been mocked at and laughed at, for the way I spoke and walked. Even during my younger days, my father would refuse to call me his own, whilst my mother would secretly give in to my fetish needs. She would bring me for facials and we would go shopping. We were like best "girlfriends"...
