Music Masala CD
Joy Entertainment founded by ‘Ice ‘movie famed Ashok & Shisha Productions have released the much hyped album “Music Masala” in Singapore recently. Many of you may have heard of this release. The album was produced by local
talents, Shamroz Khan & Shivaranjini. Let’s find out a little bit more of the creators behind the album…
Shamroz Khan only 25 is a drummer, rhythm programmer and multi-instrumentalist, in a wide variety of styles including Funk, RnB, Hip Hop, Dance, Pop and Sound Design.
As a drummer he has played with well-known artistes such as Lewis Pragasam, L.Subramaniyam, S.P. Balasubramaniyam, Anuradha Sriram, Premji, Prasanna Ragavendra, Reshmi & Mano in India.
Locally Shamroz has been a member of the D’ Mestro Band in Singapore since 2001 and has performed in numerous stage events. He has also worked as a programmer for DJs lending his talents to Dj Funky Satya & DJ Rosli.
He has tried his hand on composing title music for TV Dramas & commercial jingles as well. His song ‘Anthi Vaan Megam’ was nominated for Pradana Vizha. Recently Shamroz has joined the team of Lee Music Studio in Singapore that specializes in recording and audio reproduction, multi media and film background scoring.
Shivaranjini (Ranjini Das) 24 is a vocalist, songwriter and producer. Graduating with an Australian Degree & with a Diploma in Mass Communication from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, she was a freelance journalist before venturing into the commercial music industry. For over 15 years she has been exposed to Indian classical music education – both Karnatic and Hindustani. She has recorded for 2 Tamil commercial pop albums in Singapore. Most recently she has had an opening of playback singing in the Indian Film Industry for the movie ‘Kadhalum Kadhalumai’. This young lady has also been a supporting actress in an Indian movie titled ‘YUGA’ a ‘Kollywood’ production by Creative Force Media Pte Ltd. This stint helped her gain a foothold in India with the cinema people to help support the album.
With the Producer’s wide range of experience the album was released with much fanfare and accolades recently with Indian film industry biggies like Sarathkumar, Vivek and Kushboo attending the launch in Singapore.
SI Crew’s review: The album contains 10 songs which has both fast numbers and slow melodies. The fast-paced & rhythmic track “Vittaigal” and the soulful, “Poovin Asai” were nice picks. For a little bit of Indian rap, peppered with middle-eastern style, check out track “Ondre Solvan”. Something different was definitely the “Joget Masala”song though it felt a little like a champor (mix) of quite a number of styles with Malay lyrics coupled with Tamil and Hindi rap. Probably a Malaysian Indian may have sounded a little more original. Overall, it was a good effort though we believe the Indian pop industry has some distance to go before we can catch up with the other races. SI Crew gives 2 ½ stars on this release. Ice Ashok has been impressed with this duo’s CD that he wants to get this music album made into a video soon. “I want to support young people who have the ability and talent and help them gain popularity. We must encourage talents not suppress them” he says in an interview with our crew”.
“Most Indian music videos are shot in HD video camera which is a medium cost production and you don’t get the full experience. Our music album video will be shot in 35mm film camera. It will be film movie quality. This itself has gotten the support of a lot film people in India”, adds Ashok.
The video will be one of a kind where it is an international collaboration. 10 actresses and 10 actors (new faces) are now being talent searched for
the video. The video will be shot with totally new faces and not known artistes in order to give a fresh perspective. The videos are being planned to be telecasted on major channels.
There are plans for this videos to be shot in Singapore presenting the country in a way not always done by media crew. Places not seen before- 10-11 scenes and venues have been already selected for shooting.
The message? World peace. (Ulaga Amaithy). The video will draw attention to the handicapped, blind, mentally handicapped, convicts etc.
