Singapore Food Festival - Little India

Food Oh, Glorious FOOD! The Singapore Food Festival (SFF), a lavish gastronomical display in food paradise Singapore was much anticipated for the 16th year and just ended on Sunday 20th Jul 2009. Though this year’s theme was based on Peranakan delicacies, SFF 2009 also featured various other ethnic cuisine in special eat and drink events held throughout Singapore in Chinatown, Little India and Kampong embodying the theme of SUPPER.

Many of us, would have thronged to any of these locations to well, taste the spreads. Food, as we all know, provides the best setting to socialize with family and friends. And it was indeed no surprise as to how spontaneous and mesmerized our people were with our own fare at Little India. The beautiful aroma and flavour of Indian food is often betrayed by the lovely use of our diverse spices and masala, which simply titillates our senses. That certainly attracted many passersby to the tented bazaar displays located opposite Mustafa centre.

The fiesta-like atmosphere was intensified with great entertainment put up by Local and International Artistes. It was indeed heartening to see people of various other ethnicities and nationalities joining in to savour the appetising cuisines. Jonathan, a 38 years-old Caucasian said, “Food festivals are the fastest ways to try various local delicacies. I’ve an eye for food and coming here today was a great experience! I am very pleased with the atmosphere and most importantly I love spicy Indian Food!”

A handful of well-known Restaurants, GAYATHRI, SPICE SUTRA (Devigi’s), SARAVANA BHAVANS and SAKUNTHALA’S FOOD PALACE actively took part in this year’s event. From the spicy Kashmri Rava Idly, to the mouth-watering Mutton Dum Briyani, and on to the delicious desserts such as Arisi Maavu Payasam completed an eventful evening. The food fare this year definitely had something for everyone.
